I’m really looking forward to a big year in 2023.

After winning on the Champs Elysees in the Green Jersey at the Tour in 2020 – the last couple of seasons have been a little frustrating. At a couple of different stages in the season, untimely injuries have disrupted my programme and denied me the opportunity to return to the Tour de France.

In 2022, I was happy to be back winning Grand Tour stages (at the Vuelta) and just when I felt I could add a few more GT stage wins to my tally, I had to leave the race due to Covid! So like I said, it was a frustrating time but I’ve enjoyed a really good offseason and worked hard which leaves me in decent shape for the season ahead.

I’m at the right team, with a sprint train made up of some of the best teammates in the business.

“People sometimes don’t appreciate the role a team plays in cycling, but I can assure you, it’s a big, big role.”

While the south of France with my family is the perfect place for a professional cyclist, home is still Ireland and Carrick and I try to get home as often a possible.

With the green jersey in my back pocket and another Irish Champions jersey in my future, I’m looking forward to representing Ireland on the world stage for a while to come.
